I know that this seems a bit counterproductive especially after the first discussion in this group... sorry. What ready made sauces and pastes do you use, if you use any? Do you prefer making everything from scratch? I personally think that the Brahim's Malaysian curry paste and Mae Ploy Thai curry pastes are absolute lifesavers when I want to be a bit lazy, and when ingredients are impossible to find or too expensive. Both have heaps of flavour and are authentic (my mum uses Brahim's and various Thai people interviewed have given Mae Ploy a thumbs up). Not technically ready made convenience food, but I'm also a big fan of Herbie's harissa spice as a marinade - great for lazy midweek dinners.

For me anyway, it does get a bit more tricky because I'd love to make everything from scratch - but sometimes you just plain can't get the stuff you need, and most of my own relatives use ready made pastes quite often. Granted, the recipes that need ready made pastes/mixes still require quite a lot of other ingredients added to it so it doesn't feel *too* much like just dumping meat and paste in a pot and heating it until it's hot.
It's a tricky one that one. I would like to know also. Particularly with flavors that are more complex. Although I saw a great chilli oil preparation recipe and have used that really successfully mixing with a few things. But it is very time consuming making these kind of things from scratch.
Will post... Going to get our wonderful Eliza to interview Mr Hemphill of Herbies so she can post a bigger article on this topic on our homepage.
